Gunshot Detection & Triangularization

GovComm’s Compass Smart City Platform’s technology partner for Gunshot detection and triangularization is EAGL Technology, LLC in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
EAGL has a unique technology which is different from other gunshot detection methods because their algorithm (originally developed by the US Department of Energy) analyzes energy and waveform instead of sound. The EAGL IoT sensor captures and measures sound wave energy transferred through vibration of air particles then transmits this information to the Compass platform for further processing and initiation of the automated predefined workflow.

This IoT sensor is wireless, self-contained, battery operated and available in indoor and outdoor form factors with several mounting options.

The sensor is powered by an inorganic 3.6VDC lithium battery with a seven to eight-year life.

RF communications are encrypted and deliver a four to eight second response time.

Each sensor provides a spherical detection coverage area of 70,685 square feet.

EAGL IoT gunshot sensors are strategically placed and mapped, so when a gunshot event occurs, Compass will provide location information with accuracy as precise as 10 feet. The technology is most analogous to a GPS where the GPS receiver intercepts several satellites and calculates how far away each satellite is based on how long it took for the messages to arrive. Think of the EAGL IoT gunshot sensors as the satellites and the gunshot as the GPS receiver.
When a gunshot event occurs, the Compass Smart City Platform will provide the type of weapon fired, number of shots and the precise location to appropriate personnel.
